Can the fermenters be positioned above or higher than the Glycol Chiller?
Yes — fermenters can sit on a shelf higher than the GC4. As long as the fermenter is no more than 30cm (12in) above the chiller, the pump will work fine.
Important: never sit the fermenter directly on top of the Glycol Chiller. The weight of the fermenter can damage the chiller, and if the fermenter leaks, it could damage the chiller's electrics.
Can the Glycol Chiller be positioned above or higher than the fermenters?

Alongside the specifics above, the official GC4 manual sets out some broader placement rules worth following on any brew day:
- Always operate the GC4 on a flat surface, in a well-ventilated environment.
- Keep the sides of the unit where the vents are located at least 20cm (7.9") clear of any objects — the unit needs uninterrupted airflow to operate properly.
- When transporting the unit, keep it level and lift from the base — never tip it on its side or upside down, as this can damage the internal electronics and void your warranty.
