Depending on your batch volume and grain absorption, sometimes the volume of sparge water required is too much when the basket is in place.
If you’re aiming for a pre-boil volume of over 40L, simply draw around 5L from the tap during the sparge and reintroduce it when the basket is removed.
- Drain 5L (1.3 US Gal) from the tap and then continue with your sparge
- Once the basket has been removed, re-add the removed wort, ready for the boil.
