Does M02 Cider Yeast require a nutrient?
Yes, if you're using anything other than our ready to use Cider Kits.
If you are using our ready to use cider kits no nutrient is required as they already contain the full amount of nutrient needed.
If your using a 9 g sachet with your own juice must recipe, nutrient addition will be required which is predominately nitrogen . We would recommend adding Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) to the must (10-15 g/23 L should be sufficient, unless fermenting to ABVs over 5-6 %)
If using the 250 g ‘pure’ yeast version, a full nutrient complex will be required including both macro and micro nutrients. So, ensure you add a complex complete nutrient complex to ensure the yeast has everything it needs.
Our small (9g) MO2 sachet contains trace nutrients (i.e. micro nutrients) – these are in the form of yeast extract, vitamins, and minerals. We include these trace/micro nutrients as fruit juices typical lack essential nutrients for fermentation, so this we feel gives an added benefit.
However, the juice for cidermaking will still need fortifying with MACRO nutrients (predominantly a source of nitrogen) given the sachet only contains micro nutrients (note that in MJ cider kits, the macro nutrients are already blended into the concentrate, so no additions are required).
