RIMS systems are like Grainfather equipment where the mash is recirculated but the heating is all done by the element in the mash tun.
With a HERMS system, heating of the wort is done separately to the mash tun. So taking out the liquid wort and heating this by sending it through pipe inside a hot liquor tank.
