To set up your source water profile in the Grainfather app, you first need the mineral composition of the water you're brewing with (either your tap water report or RO/distilled water if you're starting from scratch).
The app then uses this as the baseline to calculate any salt additions for your recipe.
On the Grainfather app or web app:
Open Water Profiles and select 'Add Source Water Profile' as per below:
Enter the mineral values from your water report. You can switch between Basic and Advanced mode using the toggle shown in the screenshot below. If you're unsure what any of the values mean, hover over the 'i' icon next to each field for a brief explanation.
When you're creating a recipe:
- You can select your source water profile by clicking on 'Water Calculator'
- You can then choose a Target Water Profile (e.g. Pale Ale, IPA, Pilsner, Stout).
- The Grainfather water calculator will recommend gypsum, calcium chloride, Epsom salts, acids, etc., to get you close to the target profile.
